In my element

When you enter inside Grand Central Station, located on Remount Road in North Charleston, you’ll instantly feel drawn to many places. One of which you’ll find tucked away to your left with a beckoning aroma and soothing tunes.

3rd Eye Lounge becomes your home away from home.

It becomes hard to drop in for five or ten minutes when you’ve become curious about the beauty inside. Ikeoma Divine, the creator, welcomes you in with a smile. Though mostly introverted, the conversations you will have with her will place you on higher ground.

One of the first things she will tell you is that the answer lies within you. She provides the tools to help you acknowledge what you’ve already known to be true. I guess that’s why there’s a level of comfort within her dwelling. Creating a space of authenticity. That is what she provides by doing it all flawlessly.

Are your chakras aligned?

Over the next seven weeks, Ikeoma will lead others a journey of self transformation. Through her Rootwork for Self Transformation course, she will help others remove blockages and stagnation of 7 energy points all connected to one’s emotional and physical body. This will all be done through rootwork rituals helping you to explore the imbalances of seven chakras.

Now Available: Life Through Art

It’s official.

I am taking things to the next level, and helping others do the same.

cropped-black-life-through-art.png

Life Through Art is for the millennial creative, visionary, or business owner.

3rdeyelounge_10.JPG

It was created with the intention to act as an extension of an already developed idea or brand. For creators, we have a tendency to stand in our own way. Whether it be how we execute a photo campaign for a project or business, announcing our newest business venture, or just putting out consistent content. We don’t trust everyone to handle the intimate affairs of creativity, but it often hurts us when we end up having lackluster images, and we’re not putting out any content for months on end.

As a person who works full time, has a communications platform (Conqueror Movement), and is currently working as a part time freelancer, I fully understand how hard it is just to stay afloat and keep up. I am a creator who lives my life fully through my art. And now, I want to help others take their business to the next level by doing the things I already do on a weekly basis, and love doing.

What my clients get from booking with Life Through Art Media:

  • A consultation session which allows us to get to know each other, it allows me to get to know your brand, and ways that my platform can serve you.
  • *A monthly workflow of visuals catered to your brand. From the consultation, we can figure out if you need help putting out consistent content on a monthly basis or just tying up loose ends. If you demands are monthly, we will be working to figure out what your brands needs to develop a package that can involve up to the following: photo content, video content, social media content creation

As a welcome to those who haven’t worked with me yet, or would like to work with me again, I am offering a reduced rate on my works for ONE WEEK ONLY.

Simple Photo Women's Fashion Instagram Post

Getting Back to Me

2017 was all about growth and creating a solid foundation.

On January 1, 2017, I entered this year on the worst term possible. I was struggling with my relationship. Struggling with my self esteem both personally and professionally. I had maintained a lifestyle in Charleston doing my career that I love wholeheartedly, and not being able to afford to live the lifestyle I was “living” in.

But as the saying goes, it’s not how you start. It’s how you finish.

In February, my rocky relationship came to a traumatic end. I would be broken down in the worst way, and would have to find myself again.

In March, I decided to step out on faith with my goals and shifted my focus to The Conqueror Movement, which is my communications platform that serves as a connecting point for Black millennial creatives and professionals. With the help of my two best friends, we created “Falling In Love With Your Passion”. This event would host 50 people in one room, most of who I had never met before personally. The idea of this event was to encourage Black creators that what you do and what you’re passionate about, you must maintain a relationship with it. It must be something that you dedicate your time and energy to as if it were a one on one relationship. It would be the successful catalyst for a great year for my platform. My solid team would go on to create several events and opportunities throughout the year that would help these creators grow, learn and evolve, such as monthly brunch meetups, an annual celebration , of the company, and a documentary showing called “Find Your Light” . But not only did these projects help others, they allowed me to get back to myself and see what my true potential is.

I was pushed in ways I had never been pushed. Pushed to persevere. Pushed to trust the process. Pushed to trust others.

Now that I think of it, that would be the foundation of what I learned this year about myself and what I would learn I need to do for myself.

I learned that energy can be toxic if it’s wrong. Be protective of yours and don’t allow others to steal your joy.

My life experiences are constantly shaping me, and that’s important.

new year 2018_3

If you cannot learn from what you do, what you see around you, and even the people you find yourself around, you are doing things wrong.

Looking ahead, I want to be more open about the things I have experienced so that those things can help others. I also want to be more real with myself about where I am, where I want to be, and just learning how to be more unapologetic.

In 2018, you will see a lot more from me, starting with this website.

Things have changed since I last debuted it on my birthday, May 30 of 2015. I have acquired my dream job, I have grown from a youngin’ to a young woman, and I am more confident in my abilities. You no longer need to see the labor of my work, you know what I’m capable of. The question now is: Who Is Khadijah?

You will find out alot more than you could imagine.

Going into the new year, I hope you will visualize your biggest fear and conquer it. I hope you won’t let it define you.

Stay tuned, friends.

New Photos added!

Tis the season for love, laughter, happiness and joy.

Super excited for all of the amazing memories to be made in 2018, and the amazing new beginnings happening for everyone before the New Year comes in.

Last week, I broke out the camera for a photo session, and to my and the bride to be’s surprise, it would turn into so much more.

You can see the complete moments of Kadijah and Qadir’s engagement on my updated Portraits page!

The World is your STAGE.

Snapchat-1651956457005651376[1]

On Saturday, June 11, 2016 “The Stage” was set in the private location of the Charlotte Trolley Museum on a street of Charlotte, NC filled with art and a lively energy that was infectious.

When entering the facility, attendees were greeted with the message:

“All the world’s a stage.”

And from then on, it truly was.

Snapchat-3497510943123932933[1]

From the neo soul and jazz vibes of the music played, to the lovely cocktails of the contributor, “Just a Sip.” The atmosphere of #TheStage16 was created for everyone to embrace each other and, well, embrace themselves for being present and in the moment.

I found myself soaking it all in. After all, I hardly could believe I had received an invitation to this magnificent event.

20160611_221137_1465697657786[1]

The Stage was created to highlight creative + introspective individuals fulfilling their purpose.

The honoree class of #TheStage16 was a direct representation of that focus.

20160611_215710[1]

Each honoree has made a name for themselves and has created a positive impact in their communities. It is a positive influence for those who attended the stage like myself who are just entering the realm of “the real world” and trying to decide which path to embark on.

I took away small things from each person’s introduction and words of advice.

“Be the change that you want to see.”

“Follow your passions and dreams. Money will come. That’s not your motivation.”

“Always be a reaching hand for someone.”

“No matter what adversity comes your way, don’t worry. God isn’t going to let you fail.”

“Everyone has a responsibility to make this world a better place.”

Even getting the chance to interact with friends and people I’ve met for the first time was an enlightening experience.

I remember sitting on one of the couches as I ran into two of my colleagues from the University of South Carolina. We had a full conversation about being the change we wanted to see in our communities and challenging others to do the same.

We also discussed how difficult that could be at times when others around you are not ready to see you make those strides. I responded with a couple of quotes myself.

“You have to be your biggest supporter, your biggest investor, your biggest everything.

I am lucky to be gravitating towards people who want to see positive change just as much as I do, but also being a new graduate and having gone through several transitions with friends and career opportunities, I realize the importance of valuing yourself.

20160611_195836[1]

If you see no value in yourself and who you are, what you are capable of, and you don’t believe in your own dreams and your ability to carry that out, then the journey can be even more difficult because you’re no longer fighting the world, you’re fighting against yourself.

All of these enlightening thoughts came to me in this moment. The Stage.

Having seen what it’s like to see plans fail, friends come and go, opportunities enter into my life that I never imagined would be possible to achieve, I realize that the world truly is my stage.

Coming from the small town of Kingstree, SC where not a lot of opportunities are made available for young people with dreams who want to see the world because they are made to think that it will never be possible for them to achieve greater, it meant a lot to be standing in a room looking at individuals who have defied the odds.

Even the creator who made all of this possible, Mr. Bryant Kirk White, is and has always been since our first meeting, a living example that all of my visions have a canvas.

Jeremiah 29:10 “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place.”

The next verse talks about the plans that God has once that hard work is completed. All put into perspective by this great.

Even as I am typing this, things are not all perfect, but things are all aligning in the greatest way possible, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

“All the world’s a stage. What will you do with it?”

Queen City – The Birth of Dreams

The graduate life has been nothing short of fun filled, exciting and most of all, busy for me.

But it’s granted me the experience I’ve always wished to have.

I went from walking across the commencement stage to being on a road trip to Charlotte, NC where the real journey began.

Can you imagine having a dream you’ve always wanted to come true finally happening?

DiVersitile of Columbia, SC — (left to right: R4L, Brittaney Chatman, Kanisha Keitt, Kendrick Retroversal Houser)

I had the pleasure of meeting 3/4 of this phenomenal group during my mentor, Brittaney Chatman’s production, “A Woman’s Suffrage” back in 2014. It was then that I realized Britt had other hidden talents — she loved music and was an avid performer. Along with that she was a part of a group, DiVersitile, made up of longtime friends who all equally love music. When Britt and I reconnected after graduation and she mentioned that she wanted me to be a part of a project that the group was involved in, I couldn’t say no.

This would mean that I would also get to work closely with Kendrick, who in addition to being a part of the group is also involved with his own platform, Good Food Radio, which stands for  Getting out our Dreams, Focusing on our destiny.

It’s ironic that the two groups would come together in this instance as my journey with them both has seen this mantra come alive.

When you’re passionate about something, you stop at nothing until it’s done.  -Self quote

The idea of the link up is to get DiVersitile closer to that dream they discussed by finally recording their debut EP.

Snapchat-5271964593037633211

For an entire weekend, I got really close and personal with these guys in a recording booth more fit for one person than two and a camera, and super comfortable space for playback and laughter.

Snapchat-3239576331442541999.jpg

I watched magic unfold, first with music writing, then with the actual recording. It was amazing seeing what every individual  artist brought to the table. Brittaney had a very keen sense of detail — she could hear things within the music that she didnt like, or didn’t flow well that moved the project along progressively.

Kanisha had a knack for bringing it all together with her voice. She could harmonize and improvise. She has a creative spirit and energy that works and really makes things click.

R4L and Kendrick are the heartbeat and the dream makers. Without their knowledge of music engineering and also very constructive, but creative criticism of what works best for the overall song and project, I don’t know how this project could’ve been a success.

“Depending on the story that you’re telling, you can be relatable to everybody or nobody.” – Chance the Rapper

Music has a way of bringing a unique energy and lesson out of everyone. When I was younger, I had this perspective that all it really took to be a successful artist was to have a voice, the ability to write your own music and determination.

Well.

I was right about two for sure. Nowadays, it’s easier to collaborate with a songwriter if you’re lucky.

But it definitely takes alot more than just those things.

It takes alot of time and patience.

For this group, this IS a God DREAM.

But it was also something that won’t be taken lightly.

After a full weekend of recording till the wee hours of the morning and doing it all over again, a celebration is definitely in order once the EP drops.

When it comes to a dream, I’ve seen what it means to never let it cross your mind and not work until your end goal is met. This further shows me what my life will be like, especially over the next year.

Snapchat-7161623177118974342.jpg

I’ve been learning to count it all as joy, the good times, the easy, the complicated, the unknown. It all leads to something grand. All leads to something bigger and better and more fulfilling.

I’ve learned that having the right people and energy in your circle is super important! You never EVER need to feel like you’re making “moves” and things happen all on your own. Sometimes, you NEED that shoulder to lean on and really get your feet on the ground running all over again.

So let me ask you,

what’s your dream?

How are you making it happen?

Who are you making it happen with?

“You are your ancestor’s wildest dream.”

What does it take to start a revolution?

Work.

Passion.

A different way of thinking.

Community.

Over the past month I’ve observed a lot and have taken in a lot of valuable information that I could greatly use to impact my life and my profession. A huge part of what was learned is not being afraid to take on the very things that others won’t.

Just two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the founders of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Alicia Garza, and what a moment in time for me it was.

I was in Japan when the hashtag took over timelines all over the world. Having been back in the states for about a year now, it’s almost painful to think that a lot really hasn’t changed since then.

Garza spoke on various topics, but the main point that I took away was “these narratives are not new, but our conditions are.” We are a remake of history unfolding.

This story reminded me that this is only one of many more stories to talk about that represent our generation and the current motions we are going through as a collective. In the new stories that I’ve covered, you will see that shine through.

In addition, I’ve been on a bit of a writing journey through my transitional period, and I am opening myself up to all of you with new poetic pieces.

As usual, I am always open to comments or criticism. I enjoy what I do, and I really hope to just get better and better in my approaches of how I do things and the stories that I tell.

Thank you for your constant support in my endeavors. It really does make a difference.

“The revolution will be televised.”

Because Life Is – Cheers to New Beginnings

I feel like the year has started anew.

Coming back to the University of South Carolina, being in the midst of everyone I hadn’t seen in so long with a brand new mindset and purpose is one of the most amazing feelings you could ever have.

I remember, especially, just 3 years ago I was starting my undergraduate  career as a student. Now, entering my 4th and final year at USC, I couldn’t be  happier with the progress I’ve made and the work that I’ve done, but there is still so much work to be done.

One of the organizations that I was blessed to be apart of during my freshman year was Student Gamecock Television, a station run by students for students. I entered in with the mindset of being able to find my niche so that I could be good enough for TV and gaining skills that could allow me to one day make one cool videos. Now, my passion for this organization is far beyond what it could personally do for me, but more about how I can utilize the platform to help further allow other students to see their own passions.

I’m blessed to have found my family here.

There’s not one person in this organization that I don’t feel like I have a closeness with. I’m always looking for more and more ways to build relationships with individuals. This semester is no different. Now that my time is winding down, I really hope that everyone in this organization can adopt the same concept. If I’ve learned nothing else being in college, I realize that a big part of your success is attributed to  the relationships you build.

With anything that you do, you must place focus on leaving a legacy behind. You have four years, and they go by extremely fast. Take control of the precious moments you have, and don’t be afraid to live a little in the process. It’s a journey. I’m grateful for the journey I’ve had, and the continuation of that.

Cheers to getting back to basics!

-KD
